Weather record

During the month of April there was many changes in the weather. The high of the month was on April 11 and the coldest day was April 2. The average high for the month was 53.2 and the average low was 32.8. There was six days of precipitation during this period of time over 3 inches. Michigan wouldn't be in a drought stage because we got plenty of rain this month. Drought doesn't ever affect Michigan except for a few month out of the year during the summer.

Drought

Drought is when you have less rainfall than you expected over an extended period of time, usually several months or longer. Drought is a normal part of climate, and it can occur almost anywhere on earth. Drought's features and effects vary from place to place because of different geographical features and cultures, which affect how people use water. The way it affects people changes depending on where you live. Droughts are caused by lack of rain over a long period of time. If rain does occur it usually isn't enough for the ground to absorb before it is evaporated again, making it become a drought.

Most droughts tend to occur during summer, as the weather is hot and water is quickly evaporated. Droughts can last for years in most extreme cases. These types of droughts affect outback properties and can devastate crops and livestock. In order to have a drought you need less precipitation then needed to hydrate all plants and animals. When this occurs many plants and animals die off leaving humans with less food. The severity of the drought depends upon the degree of moisture deficiency, the duration and size of the affected area. There are four different types of droughts; Meteorological, Agricultural, Hydrological, and Socioeconomic. Meteorological droughts occur when the measure precipitation becomes from abnormal.

Droughts impact the economy, the people, and the environment. Human beings cannot survive without water and if they don't have it, bad things happen. Generally, as humans, we are humongous wasters. We waste tons of water every single day. During a drought we have to take some simple water conservation steps such as turning off the sink as we brush our teeth. By doing simple things like that we can save a lot of water and help our communities get through droughts and water shortages. You usually can predict droughts by forecasting two fundamental meteorological surface parameters, precipitation and temperature. This makes it easier to prepare to save water through the drought.

When a drought is coming the Department of Environmental Protection puts out a warning tell when and how long the think the drought will last helping people prepare for what is coming. Even though there are hundreds of drought warnings each year there are only a few that a serious.

Because drought is to dry and hot plants cannot survive without water and animals cannot survive without plants, water and other living creatures. So drought has a great effect on the food chain. If a drought is really long, measures are taken to help save the water. When a drought is that bad drastic measures such as never washing your car or only having one shower per day are not much fun and can sometimes lead to uncleanly environments which can cause bacterial related diseases and infections. Elderly people have trouble with living in very hot and dry environments. They have trouble trying to stay cool and not many elderly folk drink a lot of fluids. So drought has its own effect on every one. Drought causes the land to be unhealthy as well. It can dry it out so much that large cracks in the earth's crust and because no plants live within the dry climate it means that plant roots cannot hold the soil together. This is the effect that causes wind erosion.

4 Major Droughts

1931 – 1938, Great Plains of the USA, Severe windstorms dried out the land and blew the top layer of soil away, Cars, homes and farms destroyed in dust storms.

1982 – 1983, Australia, No rain for more than one year, 60% of Australian sheep and cattle died.

1972 – 1974, Africa, Decreased Rainfall, The countries financial business went down.

1976, Britain, It did not rain from June 1975 to September 1976. Droughts are very rare in England, Water rationing was greatly needed in the larger cities of Britain.
